BNP in frustration over political failures: Obaidul

Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said that BNP was suffering from frustration for its political failures and for this, the party could not see any positive achievements or economic development of the government and the country.

He was addressing a virtual meeting on enhancing the standard of service of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority through videoconferencing from his official residence on parliament premises.

Officials of BRTA headquarters, Dhaka metropolitan, adjoining districts, Chattogram, Cumilla and Sylhet joined the virtual meeting.

Obaidul, also Awami League general secretary, said that the country’s foreign exchange reserve crossed $41 billon and remittance inflow had also increased but BNP could not see these positive aspects.

He said that 18 flyovers and 413 kilometers four-lane highways had been constructed in the country so far. If BNP doesn’t believe that, they can visit the spots physically, he added.

About BNP’s allegation that the government is making falsehood over the country’s economic growth, the minister said that BNP suffered from jealousy whenever the party hears any positive news of the country or its development and progress. So, BNP’s mistrust and falsehood are intrinsic, he added.

About BNP’s announcement of waging mass upsurge, the AL general secretary said that the party which could not bring out a large procession on streets was daydreaming of waging mass upsurge.

He said that in the last part of the previous fiscal year, the global economy got stuck due to outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic but Bangladesh recorded GDP growth rate above 5 per cent overcoming the negative impact of the pandemic.

Mentioning that Asian Development Bank predicted Bangladesh’s GDP growth rate would be 6.8 per cent in 2020-2021 fiscal, Obaidul expressed his optimism that Bangladesh would be the 4th top Asian country in GDP growth rate.

Turning to BRTA activities, the minister said that everyone of BRTA must have to follow the rules and regulation.

He asked the authorities concerned to take steps if anyone violates rules.

Obaidul urged all concerned to remain alert so none suffer while receiving services from BRTA.
