Another bank robbery on Staten Island! New stickup in Annadale, cops say

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police were called to a bank in Annadale Wednesday afternoon for a report of a robbery— the fourth on Staten Island over the past two weeks.

The suspect in this case — described as a white, middle-aged male — entered Richmond County Savings Bank branch at 820 Annadale Road just before 2 p.m., and ultimately made off with an undetermined amount of cash, an NYPD spokesman said.

Witnesses told police he fled on foot toward the nearby Annadale train station.

It wasn’t immediately certain if he was armed during the robbery.

He was described as about 5-feet-9-inches tall, and about 150 pounds, police said.

The bank is located on a commercial stretch of Annadale Road, across the street from multiple popular eateries.

A woman working within view of the bank said none of the staff were aware of what happened until police arrived. “Nobody saw or heard anything until we saw the police cars,” she said.

A man eating lunch with his family across the street at the time of the incident said police activity in the neighborhood is highly unusual.

“This is a nicer neighborhood; you got Bugattis driving around,” said Matt Hayes, 30, of Annadale. “I’m shocked, honestly.”

3 PRIOR INCIDENTS THIS MONTH NAMED PATTERN

Staten Island has seen a rash of robberies or attempted robberies at financial institutions on the borough the past two weeks.

The NYPD has grouped three prior incidents into a pattern.

The most recent occurred early Tuesday inside Northfield Bank at 2706 Hylan Blvd. at Ebbitts Street in New Dorp, according to a written statement by the NYPD.

A male displayed a note to the teller and demanded cash before fleeing with $466, police said.

The other two incidents were reported within minutes of each other at about 2:30 p.m. on May 10 in Grasmere.

A man entered the New York Community Bank at 1100 Hylan Blvd. where he handed the bank teller a note stating that he had a gun and demanded money. The teller refused to comply and the individual fled the location empty handed, according to the police statement.

At a different Northfield branch, located at 1158 Hylan, a man entered and handed the bank teller a note stating that he had a gun. He demanded money, the teller complied and the individual fled the location with $3,200, according to the police statement.

Police released surveillance images of the man sought for questioning in the Grasmere and New Dorp heists, taken from cameras at the two Grasmere banks.

He is described as standing about 5′10″ tall and weighing about 150 pounds. He was seen wearing a red sweatshirt, blue surgical mask and a white hat.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-8477 (TIPS) or for Spanish, 1-888-577-4782 (PISTA).
