Qantas Double Status Credits promotion for flights to New Zealand

Qantas is hoping to spike demand for flights to New Zealand by tempting travellers with an offer for Double Status Credits, with a bonus 5,000 Qantas Points thrown in for good measure.

While bookings under the trans-Tasman bubble got off to a predictably roaring start when quarantine-free flights commenced on April 19, recent weeks have reportedly seen a marked slump in passenger numbers, resulting in some scheduled flights being dialled back while others have been downgraded from the large Airbus A330 to the smaller Boeing 737.

Now Qantas is dangling a Double Status Credits promotion to lure frequent flyers across the pond and put some bounce back into the bubble.

Bookings must be made between May 10 and May 15 2021, but cover travel from May 17 2021 through to February 28, 2022: an generous window which kicks off with the forthcoming ski season and winter school holidays but extends all the way to the summer holidays.

The standard Status Credits earn rates for one-way Qantas flights from the east coast to New Zealand average around 25 Status Credits in economy and 85 Status Credits in business class, so the typical haul from a Double Status Credits return trip will range from 100 to 340 Status Credits.

Also on the table are an extra 5,000 Qantas Points, which is around twice the usual number of points (based on the rates for a Gold-grade frequent flyer booked on a standard economy fare).

To take advantage of the Double Status Credits and bonus Qantas Points offer, travellers must first register via this link by 11.59pm EST on Saturday May 15, and then book any Qantas-operated flight carrying a QF flight number (this rules out Jetstar flights, for example) to or from New Zealand from May 17 2021 to  February 28 2022.
