Mosman Oil and Gas Ltd advances preparations in Australia

The explorer is working on plans for airborne gravity and seismic data acquisition in the Northern Territory.

() updated investors on its operations in the Amadeus basin, in EP145 located in Australia’s Norther Territory, where planning is underway for an exploration programme.

The work in Australia is being managed by Dr Julie Daws in consultation with the technical director Andy Carroll.

Bids have now been received for a planned airborne gravity data acquisition and they are currently being evaluated, the company said in a statement.

It also highlighted that the programme can proceed in the near future as there are presently no Covid-19 restrictions in the Norther Territory and no ground access is required.

As planning work continues Daws and Carroll have met with the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority (APAA) and the Central Land Council (CLC) in Alice Springs to discuss the current work programme.

An AAPA Sacred Site Clearance Certificate is required for the programme, along with a CLC requirement for a heritage survey which is needed for ground access for seismic acquisition.

The company said it is currently awaiting clarity from the CLC regarding the timeline and also whether an on-ground environmental survey and environmental management plan is needed before crews can access the area.

Additionally, the company noted that it has applied to the NT Government for an extension.

Exploration across the Amadeus basin has included a focus on the ‘subsalt’ play, including at Mosman’s EP145.

Two prior wells in the region – Magee 1 (drilled in 1992) and Mt Kitty 1 (drilled in 2019) – previously encountered hydrocarbons and helium.

Additionally, the company pointed to additional prospectivity which was shown with the West Walker-1 gas discovery which exists within EP145. Two wells in the 1980s discovered and sought to follow it up, though the later was unsuccessful.

The discovery was in the Pacoota Sandstone and, according to an independent assessment by SRK in 2016, the play hosts some 22bn cubic feet of gas in EP145 plus some 1.456bn cubic feet in the Horn Valley Siltstone play.
