Trading Places: Citi’s Drury heads to San Fran, ex-HSBC exec joins Brevan Howard,

Philip Drury, the head of Citigroup‘s investment bank in Europe, is relocating to San Francisco to head up a new unit aimed at capitalising on technological disruption.

Drury, who has been head of banking, capital markets and advisory for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Citigroup for over two years, will lead the new team of around 400 investment bankers globally.

The unit will be one of what the bank calls a ‘super group’ where Citi aims to tap into a growing trend that straddles multiple sectors and divisions.

Attar was previously vice president of development at Citi, before helming its corporate accelerator programme for late-stage fintech companies.

The Tel Aviv-based startup said Attar will drive growth in its technology platform, which uses data to help banks source new products and identify which parts of their existing infrastructure could be repurposed or better used.

Elie El Hayek, the former global head of fixed income at HSBC, has re-emerged at hedge fund Brevan Howard around a year after his exit from the lender.

El Hayek was one of the biggest names to leave HSBC in the wake of a new strategy unveiled by chief executive Noel Quinn in February 2020, which will mean $100bn in risk-weighted assets stripped out, with its global markets unit a key target of the reduction.

HSBC has hired the former head of Wells Fargo‘s international business to lead its European investment banking unit.

Lisa McGeough is joining the UK lender as head of global banking for Europe, according to an internal memo seen by Financial News and confirmed by a bank spokesman.

She will replace Philippe Henry, who announced his intention to retire from the bank in February.

McGeough, one of the most senior female bankers in the City who has previously featured on the FN 100 most influential women in Europe list, will start at HSBC in June, reporting to global banking and markets co-head, Greg Guyett, and HSBC’s European CEO, Colin Bell.

She joins HSBC after a 15-year career at Wells Fargo, where she was latterly head of its international business in the City, and has previously co-headed its corporate and investment banking business. She has also worked at Morgan Stanley, Toronto Dominion Securities and Citigroup in both markets and leveraged finance roles.
