The SA Police Service has withdrawn a criminal case of theft against Johannesburg electricity provider City Power for an alleged hostile takeover of the disputed machinery installed by an axed contractor on a new substation project site in Eldorado Park in Soweto without following the proper legal processes.

Gauteng police spokesperson Mathapelo Peters said a case of theft was opened on Wednesday and registered at the Sandton Police Station, however, “the same case was closed when it emerged during the preliminary investigation that this was actually a civil matter that was related to contracts”.
