Redeem IHG Points At Six Senses Resorts

In early 2019 it was announced that InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) would acquire Six Senses, a luxury hotel brand. Up until now Six Senses hasn’t really been integrated into the IHG Rewards Club program, but that has finally changed, as it’s now possible to redeem IHG Rewards Club points at select Six Senses properties.

Six Senses hotels can now be booked with points

IHG will be progressively rolling out award redemptions at Six Senses properties. It’s now possible to redeem IHG Rewards Club points at the following six properties for stays as of April 27, 2021:

  • Six Senses Botanique (Brazil)
  • Six Senses Fiji (Fiji)
  • Six Senses Laamu (Maldives)
  • Six Senses Ninh Van Bay (Vietnam)
  • Six Senses Uluwatu Bali (Indonesia)
  • Six Senses Yao Noi (Thailand)

When it comes to redeeming points at Six Senses properties, there are a couple of things to note:

  • As is the case at all IHG properties, there will be blackout dates and capacity restrictions
  • Award pricing will be dynamic, meaning the number of points required for a stay can change in the same way that it would on a cash stay

How many IHG points do you need for Six Senses stays?

IHG Rewards Club claims that award pricing is dynamic. As of now I’m finding award pricing at each particular property to be consistent across dates, though I imagine that will change over time.

It appears that award pricing currently ranges from 60,000 points per night to 237,500 points per night, and there’s not much rhyme or reason to the pricing.

For example, the Six Senses Bali is bookable for 60,000 points per night, and paid rates are often $500+ per night.

The Six Senses Fiji is bookable for 100,000 points per night, and paid rates are often $1,000+.

The Six Senses Maldives is bookable for 100,000 points per night, and paid rates are often $1,000+.

The Six Senses Brazil is bookable for 237,500 points per night, even though paid rates are often cheaper than at the other properties that cost fewer points.

I value IHG Rewards Club points at ~0.5 cents each, so there are some potentially great redemption opportunities here.

Does the IHG Premier Card fourth night free perk apply?

One thing I’m still trying to figure out is if the awesome fourth night free perk of the IHG Premier Card also applies at Six Senses properties, because that would hugely improve the value proposition.

I see no reason it wouldn’t since IHG directly owns Six Senses, so I don’t see why these hotels would be excluded. Meanwhile IHG has excluded this benefit for redemptions at Mr. & Mrs. Smith properties, since that’s more of a marketing partnership.

IHG elite benefits at Six Senses properties

What kind of elite benefits should be expected at Six Senses properties? Well, for one, elite benefits will primarily apply for InterContinental Ambassador, Royal Ambassador, and Kimpton Inner Circle members. Those benefits will be as follows:

  • Complimentary breakfast for two in the main restaurant per day
  • Signature Amenity of either a complimentary 50 minute Six Senses Spa massage for two or local experience once per stay; the Signature Amenity varies by resort, is subject to availability and confirmed on arrival
  • Complimentary one category room upgrade (subject to availability, excluding residences and two bedroom or greater suites/villas)
  • Extended check-out of 4PM subject to availability, guaranteed for Royal Ambassador & Kimpton Inner Circle members
  • Early check-out of 10AM subject to availability, guaranteed for Royal Ambassador & Kimpton Inner Circle members and in circumstances where the room is not available at 10AM, the member may be checked into another available room until the original booked room becomes available
  • Complimentary internet access
  • Wellness Platter welcome amenity on day of arrival

What I’m not sure of is if all of these perks apply on award stays? If so, buying InterContinental Ambassador status for $200 to use for a…
