Punjab: Ex-scribe’s bank account tally touches 11 | Chandigarh News
CHANDIGARH: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the Rs 3 crore property fraud case has claimed to have detected four more bank accounts of former journalist Sanjeev Mahajan, one of the main accused in the case, taking his account tally to 11.
Police sources said they found a transaction of Rs 70 lakh in one of the accounts. Police said they would take the help of chartered accountants and income tax officials to verify all transactions.
In the meantime, Mahajan applied for bail in a local court, denying his role in the case and claiming he was falsely implicated because he “exposed several political leaders, police officers and criminals” during his journalistic career.
Mahajan’s counsel said he was forced to give a statement during police custody and claimed the SIT had not found anything illegal during the search of his house. The court issued a notice to the police to file its reply on Thursday.
At the same time, the SIT opposed the bail application of Saurabh Gupta, one of the accused. The SIT said Gupta could influence witnesses if he comes out. The court fixed the hearing on March 25.
The district and sessions court would also hear the bail application of Manish Gupta , brother of Saurabh Gupta, on March 25.
