Mizuho remittances delay totals 50 bil. yen

Mizuho Bank says a delay to foreign currency remittances on March 12 affected more than 260 transactions worth about 50 billion yen, or about 460 million dollars.

The remittances were mainly requested by cooperate customers in Japan.

Mizuho has suffered four system failures in a matter of about two weeks. It says the latest was caused by hardware trouble.

On Wednesday, Mizuho Financial Group said it will scrap a plan to replace the head of its banking arm. Instead, it will set up a third-party panel of experts to address the problems.

On February 28, about 80 percent of Mizuho’s ATMs in Japan were rendered unusable. The bank said the failure occurred during a data update.

The Financial Services Agency is set to conduct an inspection of Mizuho Bank, which it penalized in 2002 and 2011 for large-scale system failures.
