Weir Group PLC wins follow-up contract for Iron Bridge mining project

PLC () has won a £95mln contract to provide operational support for the Iron Bridge mine in Australia.

The contract will begin in 2022 at the huge project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, where the FTSE 250-listed engineer is already supplying £100mln of equipment, including its high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGRs) that enable dry processing of ore.

Weir said this aftermarket order and revenues will be recognised over the seven-year period of the agreement, in line with the project’s initial production.

The company said it is building a new service centre in Port Hedland, Western Australia.

Ricardo Garib, president of the Weir Minerals division, said it was “another landmark order” for the company.

“Having helped design an energy and water-efficient magnetite processing plant, we are delighted to provide operational support for Iron Bridge from 2022.”

Weir emphasised that its HPGRs machines offer significant cost, energy and water savings for one of the most energy-intensive parts of the mineral process.
